The High School Equivalency Test (HISET) is a new alternative to the GED test that can help individuals obtain state-issued high school equivalency certification. Successfully passing the HiSET exam demonstrates the academic knowledge and proficiency equivalent to that of a high school graduate. The HiSET exam aligns with the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards for Adult Education, as established by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) in April 2013. Acceptance of the HiSET diploma/certificate is recognized by employers and authorized colleges in all 50 states. Additionally, the HiSET exam assesses key components of the CCR Standards for Adult Education and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), aiding in identifying areas of career and college readiness. A subtest score of 15 indicates preparedness for college and career pursuits.

The HiSET exam allows a maximum of 4.25 hours to answer 297 questions. To pass, a minimum score of 75% is required.

Questions in the HiSET test are categorized into five core areas:

• Language Arts – Reading
• Language Arts – Writing
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies
